Prescribed by veterinarians for the nutritional management of adult dogs with urinary stones (struvites) and to help prevent their recurrence
Urine acidifying properties
Low level of magnesium
Suitable for dissolving struvite stones and reducing their recurrence
Helps lower the concentration of ions in the urine, inhibiting the development of struvite and calcium oxalate crystals
Supports urine dilution and larger urinary volume to ensure regular bladder wash out and prevent crystals
Low in the magnesium that is a component of struvite uroliths
In older dogs: renal function should be checked before Urinary S/O Canine is prescribed
Indications – may be prescribed to nutritionally manage:
Bacterial cystitis
Dissolution of struvite uroliths
Management of recurrent struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis
Contraindications:
Chronic renal failure, metabolic acidosis
Heart failure
Pancreatitis or history of pancreatitis
Hyperlipidaemia
In conjunction with the use of urine-acidifying drugs
Pregnancy
Lactation
Growth
